A cholera outbreak affected all communities participating in the Borno Safe Spaces Learning Programme during the reporting period.
A practical, integrated response
HALI incorporated cholera awareness and prevention messages into sessions, promoted handwashing and sanitation, distributed hygiene kits and hand sanitizers, monitored attendance and referred affected participants to health facilities.
Protecting continuity and well-being
Mentors maintained contact with girls and caregivers, while programme schedules and follow-up were adapted where necessary. The experience demonstrated the value of combining education, health information, psychosocial support and community engagement in one trusted platform.
